The Lindisfarne Cricket Club was formed in 1892 and first competed in the Clarence Cricket Association. The Club then joined the Southern Suburban Cricket Association in 1947 and competed with great success winning a number of premierships. The club had some great players such as the Cashion family, Bill Kingston, Harley Brooks and Neil Lovell. The club in its last season with the Southern Suburban Cricket Association won all three division premierships in 1991-92. With the success of the club it successfully applied and gained entry to the Tasmanian Cricket Association in 1992. The club gained Colin (Funky) Miller in its first season as a player along with some experienced players who had Tasmanian Cricket Association involvement. The club as expected struggled in its first season but with careful junior development has become a leading club in the Association. Since signing Glen Hughes as coach in 1995 the club has won the 3rd Grade premierships in 96,2002, 2nd Grade 95, Club Championship. Ali DeWinter a former Tasmanian player took over from Glen in 1998 and the team won the State wide Kookaburra Championship by beating Launceston Cricket Club who had David Boon in its side while Lindisfarne Cricket Club had Jamie Cox (now v captain of Tasmania and captain of Somerset). Glen Hughes returned to the club in 2000-2001 season as coach and the club won its first 1st grade premiership. 2002-2003 was a very successful year for the club as we had all our teams in finals. Which was a first for the club. Our 3rd grade and 4th grade were able to win their respective premierships. Glen Hughes retired as coach from the Club. 2003-2004 the club decided to go for a youth policy, instead of going out and recruiting players we gave our juniors the opportunity to play 1st grade. We appointed Kevin Treweek as head coach. Although we were not as successful has we have been in past years Iam sure that the players we introduced into higher grades will only benefit themselves and the club in the future. We lost one our highly respected players in Shane Watson who has returned to Queensland. We wish him all the best for his future cricket and thank him for his contribution to this club. 2004-2005 the club has appointed Richard Allanby as head coach along with a panel of coaches consisting of Mathew Allan, Nigel Horsley and Bruce Johnson . The club has for the first time in its history linked all junior cricket to the club. This takes our player data base to approximately 230 Players. This will be of great benefit to the club in years to come and will now enable all cricketers to have a career pathway if they wish to do so. 2005-2006 We have retained our coaching structure from the previous year and our player base has increased to 253 players. This year we have 4 senior sides and 11 junior sides and a Have A Go group of 46 players. The club policy is still to give our juniors the opportunity to play at higher levels if they wish to do so. The club last year was successful in winning the 3rd Grade premiership and the Spirit of Cricket Award. This season we have again won the Spirit of Cricket Award also back to back premierships in 3rd grade, our U/15s have won there premiership and the club has won the Club Championship Award.1st, 2nd, 3rd Grade all made the finals. A very successful season for us. |
